The Mies van der Rohe Building at Indiana University's Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design is an academic hall based on a rediscovered 1952 design by the eponymous modernist architect. Executed by Thomas Phifer and Partners, the two-story, 10,000-square-foot building features white-painted structural steel, two horizontal planes that seem to float, and an ultra-transparent window wall system. The rigorous International Style design presented photographic challenges, requiring an acceptance of the evidence of daily use contrasting against the otherwise fastidious building.
